The Annual Christmas Toys in the Sun Run just keeps getting bigger and bigger! Organizers estimate that more than 35,000 bikers rode in the event, joining thousands of others who enjoyed a day of fun and entertainment.
Opting to ride in a convertible sports car was Broward County Vice-Mayor Ken Keechl. "The roar of thousands of motorcycles on the road is just amazing. This is a signature event in Broward County and so many people turn out to do good for so many kids," said the Vice-Mayor.
The motorcade parade begins at the Isle Casino and Pompano Harness Track in Pompano Beach and travels 26 miles to Broward County's Markham Park. Santa Claus himself takes time out to participate in the Toy Run riding in a vintage fire truck.
Everyone must bring an unwrapped toy and the entrance fee is $10. The event is a major fundraiser for Joe DeMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood. Toys that are collected are distributed to needy children throughout the tri-county area. Organizers hope to collect 60,000 toys this year.
The annual event is sponsored by the South Florida Presidents Council, which is an umbrella organization that includes a number of motorcycle clubs and associations.
