Broward County marine industry businesses will have access to training for international business opportunities thanks to the efforts of the Broward County Office of Economic Development in securing a portion of a $1.1 million training partnership grant funded by Workforce Florida and Enterprise Florida. The grant specifically targets small- and medium-sized businesses to help them master the exporting process to enhance their sales potential and create jobs.
Through the program, called the Global Trade Training Pilot Program, grant recipients, such as Broward County, will be supported in their efforts to advise and prepare companies to grow their operations in foreign markets or to improve global business success rates.
"The Broward County portion of the grant allows us to provide training that will encompass export marketing, finance, compliance and logistics tailored to our marine industry sector," said Deborah Wilkinson, business development manager for the Broward County Office of Economic Development.
Global Trade Training is coordinated by Enterprise Florida, which is a partnership between Florida's business and government leaders and the principal economic development organizations for Florida. Global Trade Training will offer practical steps businesses can take to enter into global markets that are good prospects. The training will cover international regulatory requirements and other relevant information for selling products and services abroad.
The Office of Economic Development will be working with the Marine Industry Association of South Florida to attract companies that would benefit from participating in the program. Broward County marine industry businesses interested in participating should call Deborah Wilkinson at 954-357-6155.
