Broward County Commissioner Ken Keechl has accepted an invitation to serve on the Smart Growth Partnership Advisory Board. The Smart Growth Partnership is a Southeast Florida Initiative that promotes the use of "smart growth" principles in long-range land use planning. "Smart land use planning is a priority for me," said Commissioner Keechl. "It must take into consideration people, the environment, the economy, transportation, location, density, design and provide for future generations. The Smart Growth Partnership promotes balanced and responsible development."
Smart Growth Principles: • Provide a range of housing opportunities and choices • Aim to increase efficiency of utilizing water and energy resources • Preserve and create open space • Create distinctive buildings and neighborhoods with a strong sense of place • Promote mixed land uses serviced by a variety of transportation modes • Make development decisions more predictable, quicker and cost effective • Create walkable sites, neighborhoods and community designs • Encourage community and stakeholder collaboration • Promote regional collaboration • Strengthen and direct development towards existing communities • Take advantage of compact building design The Smart Growth Partnership is a collaborative of diverse professionals and organizations created to provide leadership and education and to promote livable and sustainable communities in Broward County.
