Young At Art Children's Museum will host the 12th Annual Queen of Hearts Luncheon honoring the 2009 Women of Vision, on Monday, February 9, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the museum, 11584 W. State Road 84 in Davie.
The nine-member Broward County Board of County Commissioners will be acknowledged for their support of the new 55,000-square-foot Young At Art Children's Museum and Children's Library that will be built on an 11.7-acre site in Davie. Young At Art Co-Founder and Associate Director Esther Shrago will also be honored for her tireless dedication and contribution to the success of the Museum over the past 20 years.
"Through this public-private partnership with Broward County, we are building an innovative, one-of-a-kind environment with fun, interactive exhibits and classes that use art for learning," said Mindy Shrago, executive director of Young At Art Children's Museum. "This is a groundbreaking year for us as we pave the way for what will become a national model for other children's museums in the country, and at the same time celebrate the Museum's 20th anniversary.
"The Young at Art Children's Museum has been a countywide asset that provides unique opportunities for children's entertainment and art education," said Broward County Mayor Stacy Ritter. "The commission recognizes the museum's importance in growing children who are educated and interested in cultural arts."
Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, Young At Art Children's Museum has become a pioneer in the field of art education and has forged new ground by integrating the arts with math, vocabulary, geography, language and multicultural understanding to educate more than one million children and their families. Through permanent and traveling exhibitions, classes and community outreach programs, Young At Art Children's Museum provides hands-on cultural, educational and arts experiences for youth that awaken their creativity in a fun and exciting environment.
