Broward County Government has joined the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) WasteWise program, a voluntary partnership program that seeks to reduce solid waste through innovative waste prevention and recycling techniques. The program asks that residents do what they can to prevent waste, use only the material needed to get the job done, recycle, and buy recycled products.

Although the program is voluntary, Broward County takes its participation very seriously. Broward County government is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from government operations, and through the work of its Climate Change Government Operations Workgroup, the County has implemented projects to reduce energy, fuel use and waste.

In celebration of Earth Day, many County agencies are participating in community events to spread the word about the importance of protecting our natural resources and the environment. Today, the Climate Change Government Operations Workgroup will also visit the Florida Atlantic University Solar Roof Project to learn about solar technology applications and benefits.
