Three Broward County Commissioners will be recognized for their extraordinary efforts on behalf of county government at the 2009 Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Annual Conference and Educational Exhibition.

Commissioners Ilene Lieberman, Kristin Jacobs and Josephus Eggelletion, Jr. will be given the 2009 Presidential Advocacy Award by the statewide association that represents all 67 counties in Florida.

The commissioners were selected for their active role in advocating on transportation, growth management, finance and taxation, public safety and administration, health and human services, and environmental issues during the 2009 legislative session in Tallahassee.

"We are honored to recognize you for your extraordinary leadership and commitment," said FAC President Rodney J. Long in a congratulatory letter sent to each commissioner. "Thank you for your dedication and service to the citizens of the State of Florida."

For 80 years, the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) has represented the diverse interests of Florida's counties, emphasizing the importance of protecting home rule - the concept that communities and their local leaders should make the decisions that impact their community. FAC is the only association representing every county in Florida - bringing together the collective experience and knowledge of 67 counties, represented by 377 county commissioners and supported by thousands of county professional staff.

The awards luncheon takes place at noon Wednesday, June 24, at the Marriott Marco Island Resort in Collier County. A total of nine county commissioners were chosen for the 2009 Presidential Advocacy Award statewide.
